And with it neighbors c oming out of the woodwork to ask if they can borrow tools and/or if I can help them change their oil the minute I pull the jack into the driveway.

Watch your words. That title makes it seem like you let a valve spring fly off the cylinder head. :-)

I spy with my little eye, an Estwing hammer, Stanley ratcheting screwdriver, B&D drill/driver, and a Tekton socket set. Nice assortment!

Those same neighbors will be the first ones to die in a zombie apocalypse.

I had my car on ramps in a campus parking lot doing a crappy exhaust patch a few weeks back. A girl was walking by and asked if I could change her oil.

I’m ashamed to admit to you that I don’t actually know how to change oil. It’s always done on a flat surface, but if you do it on ramps, that’s not flat and you’re not getting everything out. I have never changed my own oil.

Nice neighborhood. Where I’m living now some asswipe would be anonymously calling the HOA as soon as the jack came out. Also nice bird.

Spot on. Yeah the worst part about them asking to borrow the tools is my tools aren’t even good tools! Pretty sure the one guy who came by asking if could help change the oil on his Explorer has never even  used a screwdriver.

Thanks. I stretched my budget too live here but the payoff is a place you can leave tools in your driveway overnight and they won’t get stolen yet somehow doesn’t have an HOA. My wife found the rebar  roadrunner at a flea market in south Texas.  I painted it with copper Rustoleum.

D epends on the oil pan and drain hole orientation. Lots of cars have the drain hole at the back of the pan, so when the front end is lifted up, you’re actually getting slightly more oil out than if it was perfectly level.

No shame in it. And in some cars it’s actually a total pain in the ass. Example: apparently the Ranger needs to have a wheel removed to get to the oil filter and there are Audie that need a plastic undertray removed with to get to the drain plug. Subaru makes it stupid easy by putting the filter on top of the engine. The Outback doesn’t even need to be jacked up to be drained but I needed to rotate my tires too. But if I had a car that was complicated I’d just take it in - a lot of places only charge $20 or so more than the retail  cost of the oil and filter.

I mean, I’ve been under my car enough that I know where the drain plug is, and the filter isn’t hard at all to get to. I know how to do it in theory, but I just never have. Oh well.

If you ever try make sure to get a big enough drain pan.  That was the only real mistake I’ve ever made.

Not with extractors....  all done from the top.  So nice.  No need to pull the undertrays off.

I should post an offer on Nextdoor to have an oil change day in the shop.

Well, not all Subarus are that easy.
